Albany County Stop DWI Sweep nets 17 | Crime

ALBANY - A drunken driving sweep in Albany County has 17-people facing DUI charges.

Authorities made 648 traffic stops between Friday night and Sunday morning. Three-hundred and thirty-three tickets were written, for a number of violations. Seventy-three people said they were designated drivers.

The blanket patrol was held in honor of Crystal Vanepps who died on October 29, 2010, when her boyfriend, Timothy Teichel, crashed the car they were in. Authorities say he was driving drunk.

Reichel was convicted of manslaughter and on Friday, was sentenced to 7½  to 15 years in prison.
